미국 자동차 사이트나 광고를 보면, SUV 또는 MPV가 나오네요.
SUV를 많이 들어봤는데, MPV라는 것이 더 있네요~!!
SUV?
An SUV is a Sports Utility Vehicle. These are vehicles that are similar to estate cars, or station wagons, but they have a much more rugged look to them and they are designed to be driven off-road as well on.
SUV는 지프차 (Jeep)와도 유사한 구조로 4륜 구동으로 오프로드를 커버하고, 캠핑이나 물건을 싣는 용도를 강화해서 트렁크 및 뒷좌석 공간 확보를 용이하게 설계한 차량이지요. 또한 좌석 전체가 높아서, 운전 시 시야확보도 용이하고, 세단보다 장거리에서 편안한 자세로 있을 수 있는 장점이 있네요.
MPV?
MPV stands for Multi Purpose Vehicle, which are also sometimes also called minivans, or people carriers. The modern MPV is designed, first and foremost, for transporting a larger number of people in safety and comfort.
MPV는 미니밴으로 SUV가 5명 탑승인데, 이를 6-7명까지 가능하게 시트가 설계되고, 물건 이동을 위해 뒷좌석이 접히는 방식 입니다. 브랜드별로 도어 오픈방식도 다양하고, SUV보다 사이즈가 크게 설계됩니다.
Crossover or CUV?
A crossover vehicle, which is also sometimes called a crossover utility vehicle (CUV), is a cross between a family saloon and a purebred SUV. Typically, an SUV was built on a truck chassis, where as a crossover is built more like a modern car, with a unibody.
Crossover는 SUV와 Sedan의 중간으로 높이가 SUV보다 조금 낮지만 Sedan보다는 높고, 트렁크와 뒷좌석은 SUV방식으로 공간을 만들 수 있지요. Wagon 처럼도 보이지만, SUV에 더 가까운 구조이면서, SUV보다 연비가 좋은 장점이 있지요.
