[IT Note] iPhone 14: No more Innovation
Apple held an event on September 7, 2022, where the iPhone 14 was unveiled. What distinguishes the iPhone 14 from its predecessor, the iPhone 13?
Nearly nothing, but the iPhone 14 seems to have the same specifications as the iPhone 13.
- Display: Same 6.1-inch XDR display
- CPU: Same A15 CPU, but upgraded from 4 cores in iPhone 13 to 5 cores in iPhone 14
- Storage: Same 128GB
- Camera: Same 12M (* Upgraded focal feature)
Aside from that, there aren't many differences in terms of industrial design or thickness, let alone new features or improved specifications.
However, the iPhone 13 starts at $699, while the iPhone 14 starts at $799, a $100 increase for nearly identical specifications.
This, in my opinion, is a metaphor for the fact that innovation has come to a halt. Apple's iPhone business may be able to thrive due to its devoted iPhone platform users, but Apple should prioritize more cutting-edge designs and emerging technology.
Following years of dominance in the United States and other European countries, Apple must be prepared for its next challenge.
